Summary

Dragon’s Walk is a Tower Defense with labyrinth in which you defend your village from the invasion of dragons!
With the help of your various towers, overcome the many waves of the army of dragons.

Design process

→ a month and a half project (~10 hours/week)
→ project designed in a team of 3
→ created with Processing 3 in Java
→ using Aseprite and GIMP

Context:

Dragon’s Walk is a group project carried out as part of the ISN specialization in final year of general high school.

The goal of the project was to build a program as a team and using the knowledge learned in class.
We chose to create our first video game.

The goal of the game is to place on its board defense turrets that will shoot an army of dragons. These enemies follow a path around which the player will build his towers. If too many dragons reach the end of the path, it’s defeat.

Design process:

The main objective of the project is to make a simple game, with only one level of difficulty and feasible by everyone.

We started by doing an analysis of the projects, videos and websites that proposed elements that could interest us.
By following a tutorial, we created an easy to understand interface that could be used to play the game.

While our graphic designer was working on the visual aspect and the creation of sprites, my other classmate and I worked on creating the main skeleton of our code.
We wanted to have a game that works as fast as possible, then refine and balance it.

Once the skeleton was functional, I continued to improve it while integrating the content provided by my team.

We encountered many problems but we were able to build a functional version of the game and at least a balanced one.

Final result:

The final result of this project was very satisfying: we had a playable game level and mechanics that worked. We had hardly any knowledge of Java before creating "Dragon’s Walk" which allowed us to build a solid foundation.

This project was presented individually in front of several professors and accounted for 80% of the ISN specialty grade.
